WHO WE ARE

OUR MISSION

RogueFest exists to celebrate truly independent film and the people who find a way to make it.

We believe independent film matters because it gives people the freedom to tell stories in their own voice. Sometimes those stories are deeply personal. Sometimes they're challenging or important. Sometimes they're weird, funny, messy, or completely ridiculous. And sometimes they're all of those things at the same time.

What matters to us is that they came from somebody who had something they wanted to put into the world and found a way to do it.

But making the movie is only half the battle.

Independent filmmakers need places to show their work. Audiences need opportunities to discover movies they might never encounter otherwise. And both need places where they can come together around something they love.

That's why we're building RogueFest.

WHAT WE'RE BUILDING

RogueFest is built around three things we believe a great film festival should do.

BUILD COMMUNITY

This comes first.

We don't want filmmakers to arrive, screen their movie, and leave.

We want them here. At each other's screenings. At brunch. At the parties. Sitting around talking long after they probably should have gone to bed.

Because we've seen what can happen when you put independent filmmakers together.

A conversation becomes a friendship. A friendship becomes a collaboration. Somebody you met because you happened to watch their short becomes the cinematographer on your next feature. Five years later, you realize a whole group of people you work with can trace their relationships back to the same festival weekend.

We want filmmakers to leave RogueFest knowing more people than when they arrived.

BUILD AN AUDIENCE

Independent movies need people to watch them.

We want RogueFest to become a place where people who love movies come specifically because they don't know what they're going to see. A place where taking a chance on a film you've never heard of is part of the fun.

Filmmakers deserve full theaters. Audiences deserve movies they might never discover otherwise.

And we want those two groups to actually meet. Filmmakers get to experience their work with a real audience, and audiences get to meet the people behind something they just discovered.

That's also why Kerrville matters.

We want the festival and the community around it to become part of each other. Not a film festival happening behind closed doors, but three days when filmmakers, visitors, and people who live here share the same theaters, restaurants, sidewalks, parties, and conversations.

BUILD SIGNIFICANCE

This one takes time.

We want a RogueFest selection to mean something. Not because we say it does, but because we earn that reputation through the films we program, the filmmakers we bring together, and the experience we create year after year.

Someday, we want someone to hear "My film got into RogueFest" and immediately know what that means.

We know we don't get to declare that in Year One.

We have to earn it.

GROW GOOD BEFORE BIG

We're not interested in getting as big as possible as fast as possible.

We want to get good first.

Build the community. Build the audience. Earn the reputation.

And year after year, build a festival where getting into RogueFest means something, coming to RogueFest is worth the trip, and the people you meet here might matter just as much as the movie you came here to show.

That's what we're building.
